Aquatic Weed Control

After trials with NIWA and with the guidance of our Ecologist Bill Chisholm we have developed the hand/boat application of Diquat and more latterly Endothal for successful treatment of lakes and ponds.

Diquat is the main herbicide registered for aquatic use in New Zealand. The most effective way of applying Diquat to control aquatic weeds is as a gel. This method has the advantage that not only is there is no “spray drift”, but the gel containing the herbicide sinks through temperature gradients in the weed bed and provides better control.

This has less impact on aquatic organisms than disturbing the waterway beds and banks and is considered non-toxic to fish at rates required to kill aquatic weeds.
